There’s a reason why so many youthful faces have a certain glow—the presence of a gentle under-eye fullness, often referred to as a “love band” or “aegyo-sal.” This small puff of volume just beneath the lower lash line brings a touch of innocence, warmth, and expression to the eyes. Love band surgery enhances this natural feature using fat grafting or implants, giving you a more charming, approachable, and vibrant look.

Wanting to have more distinctive and prominent eyes? Having larger eyes and a more defined eyelid is not enough. One should also focus on the creation or increasing the prominence of their love bands. Love bands refer to the bulge or “puffiness” of the lower eyelids. The amount of skin that bulges out of the lower region of your eyelids is also called pretarsal fullness. Having prominent love bands would enhance one’s eyes by giving them a soft and feminine look. Moreover, it would make the eyes seem fuller and more defined.
Love band surgery involves making a tiny incision about 2 – 3 mm below the eyelashes of the lower eyelid. Artificial skin (dermis) would then be inserted into the area. Another alternative is Fat Transfer or injection to enhance the “band”.
The surgery for love band enhancement usually takes less than an hour. It is performed under local anaesthesia and thus there will be no pain during the surgery. The scars are tiny and usually not visible. No one would even suspect that you have gone through cosmetic surgery. The time taken for the swelling to subside after surgery is approximately 3 to 5 days, hence causing minimal disruption to daily activities.
The “love band” refers to the horizontal bulge of the lower eyelid just below the eyelashes which is accentuated on smiling. It can be naturally-occurring and gives the eyes a softer, youthful and more feminine look.
There are a few established methods of creating love bands. For those patients with little or no pre-existing bands and who are willing to undergo a minor surgical cosmetic procedure, a strip of artificial skin can be used to create the band. For patients with existing bands but want them to look more prominent, fat transfer or fillers are both good choices.
Love band enhancement surgery utilising either artificial skin or fat transfer usually takes less than 60 minutes under local anaesthetic and light sedation.
Most of our patients return to work within 5 days.
